Page History

The Sprocket Page History web part shows who published the current page and when. Add it to any SharePoint page to give readers a clear timeline of its publish history, including version labels, authors, and timestamps. It's useful for content owners who need to track changes and for readers who want to know how recently a page was updated.

Features

  • Major versions - displays only published versions, so drafts never clutter the timeline
  • Grouped by date - versions are organized under date headings for quick scanning
  • Author details - displays the author's name and profile photo for each version
  • Full history link - includes a link to the complete version history page

  2. Click the + icon to add a new web part to your page.
  3. Search for and select Sprocket Page History.
  4. Configure the web part settings using the property pane on the right.

Display Options

The Page History web part offers the following configuration settings:

How It Works

Each version shows a label (V1, V2, V3, etc.), who published it, and the time it was published. Versions are grouped under date headings so you can scan the timeline quickly.

Click an author's photo to open their Microsoft 365 profile card.

If the page hasn't been saved yet, you'll see a message asking you to save it first.

FAQs

1. Does it show draft versions? No. The web part only displays published (major) versions. Draft and minor versions are not included.

2. Can I control how many versions appear? Yes. Use the Number of versions to display setting in the property pane. You can show between 1 and 50 versions. The default is 6.

3. Does it update when I publish a new version? Yes. Each time the page is published, the new version appears in the web part automatically.

4. What if the page has never been published? The web part displays a message asking you to save the page first. Once the page has at least one published version, the timeline will appear.
