Employee Recognition
The Employee Recognition web part for Sprocket 365 makes it easy for staff to publicly praise each other for great work. Each praise is shown as a card with a patterned banner, the recipients' photos, the message itself, and the sender - turning your intranet into a place where wins are celebrated, not just announced. The list it's built on is provisioned automatically on first use, so there's nothing to configure to get started; admins who want to point at a list on another site (e.g. a hub site or sister site) can do so from the property pane.
Features
- Send a praise from the web part - a clean modal with a people picker, headline, note, and a visual banner pattern picker
- Recognise multiple people in a single praise. The card shows up to 3 photos + 3 names, then a +N more toggle that reveals the rest
- Recipient photos pull from SharePoint user profiles automatically (with initials fallback when no photo is available)
- Auto-provisions an Employee Recognition SharePoint list (with the To, Note, and Banner columns) on first use - no manual list setup required
- Source override: point the web part at a recognition list on another site (sister site, hub site) via the Query Options panel, with optional filters
- Custom CSS hooks: Custom Styles and Custom CSS Class for tenant-specific branding
How to configure the Employee Recognition web part
- If you are not already in edit mode on your page, select Edit on the top right of the page.
- Select Edit details
at the top of the web part.
- Hover over the
icon and type 'Employee Recognition'.
- Toggle Title On/Off - controls whether the web part title is shown.
- Toggle Show in Panel On/Off.
- (Optional) Configure Query Options if you want to source praises from a list on another site (see below).
- (Optional) Configure Custom Styles / Custom CSS Class under the Styles section to add tenant-specific branding.
By default the web part will auto-provision and use the Employee Recognition list on the current site - no further configuration is required.
Sending a praise
- From the page, select Send a Praise in the top-right corner of the web part.
- In the modal that opens, pick one or more recipients in the To field.
- Enter a short Headline - this becomes the card title shown on the patterned banner.
- Write the Note - this is the praise message body. Long messages are supported and will scroll within the card.
- Pick one Banner pattern from the three previews.
- Select Send praise.
The new card appears at the top of the web part immediately after saving. The praise is stored as an item in the configured SharePoint list - to edit or delete praises later, use the SharePoint list directly.
Query Options (using a list from another site)
By default the web part uses the Employee Recognition list on the current site. If you'd rather show praises from a list elsewhere in your tenant - for example a single hub-wide recognition list that several departmental sites all surface - you can repoint the web part:
- Open the property pane and expand the Query Options group.
- Pick a Site URL — the site collection that owns the list.
- Pick a Web URL — the specific web inside that site collection.
- Pick a List Title — the recognition list to read from.
- (Optional) Add one or more Filters to narrow which praises are shown (for example, filter to a specific Banner pattern, or to praises created in the last 30 days).
When the source is set to a list other than the default, the web part will not auto-provision or modify the target list - it assumes the list already has the To (multi-user), Note (multiline text), and Banner (choice) columns that match the canonical schema. Sending a praise from the modal will write to whichever list is configured.
FAQs
1. Can I recognise more than one person in a single praise?
Yes. The To field in the Send a Praise modal is a multi-person picker, so you can add as many recipients as you like to one praise. The card itself shows up to three avatars and three names by default - if there are more, a +N more link appears next to the names that expands the full list when clicked.
2. Who can post a praise, and who can see them?
Anyone with at least Contribute permissions on the underlying Employee Recognition list can send a praise - the web part creates the list with the site's default Members group granted Contribute access on first provision. Visibility follows the same SharePoint permissions as any other list on the site, so if a user can read the list, they'll see the praises in the web part.
3. How do I edit or delete a praise after it's been posted?
The web part is read-only after publishing - to edit or remove a praise, open the Employee Recognition SharePoint list directly (List settings → click the item → Edit / Delete). Any changes made there will show up the next time the web part loads.
4. Can I pull praises from a list on a different site (for example our hub site)?
Yes. In the property pane open the Query Options group and pick a different Site URL, Web URL, and List Title - the web part will read praises from that list instead of the local default. When pointed at a non-default list, the web part will not auto-provision or modify it, so make sure the target list already has the To (multi-user), Note (multiline text), and Banner (choice) columns.
5. How many praises are shown?
The web part loads the 30 most recent praises and pages through them - three cards per page in a full-width section, one per page in narrower sections.
