Read Checklist
The Read Checklist web part gives each user a personal list of required reading assigned through Read Lists. It helps employees quickly see what they still need to read, what they have already completed, and whether any item has a due date.
Read Checklist supports both SharePoint pages and files from document libraries. Pages open in SharePoint. Files open in a Sprocket reading viewer where users can preview the file and mark it as read.
What Users See
- Unread items that still need to be completed.
- Items You've Read for completed reading assignments.
- Due dates for assigned items.
- File and page icons so users can quickly recognise the item type.
- A search box to filter the checklist.
- A document viewer for assigned files.
When a user opens an assigned file, the viewer shows a Mark as Read button. After the user confirms the acknowledgement, the item changes to Read Complete.
Adding the Web Part
- Go to the SharePoint page where users should see their required reading.
- Click Edit.
- Click the + icon to add a web part.
- Search for Read Checklist - Sprocket 365.
- Select the web part.
- Configure the source and display options.
- Publish the page.

The All sites within this hub option is only available when the current site belongs to a SharePoint hub.
Reading Pages
Assigned pages appear as page items in the checklist. Select the page title to open the page, read the content, and complete the acknowledgement from the Knowledge Hub page experience.
Reading Files
Assigned files appear with file-type icons. Select a file to open it in the reading viewer.
The viewer supports inline previews for common file types, including Office files, PDFs, images, videos, audio files, markdown, and text files where SharePoint can provide access. If a preview is not available, the viewer provides a link to open the file directly.
When finished, select Mark as Read and confirm the acknowledgement. Completed files show as Read Complete with the read date.
Tips
- Place Read Checklist on employee home pages, compliance hubs, policy pages, or Knowledge Hub landing pages.
- Use Only Show Unread Items when the page should feel like a task list.
- Use Query Source to decide whether the web part should show assignments from the current site, a specific site, all sites, or the current hub.
- Keep the web part near related policy or compliance content so users understand why the reading is required.
FAQs
Where do checklist items come from?
Checklist items are created by administrators in Read Lists. The web part only displays assignments that apply to the current user.
Can Read Checklist show files as well as pages?
Yes. Read Lists can assign SharePoint pages and files from document libraries. Both can appear in the Read Checklist web part.
Can users mark files as read from the web part?
Yes. Files open in the reading viewer, where users can select Mark as Read.
What happens if a file cannot be previewed?
The viewer shows a preview-unavailable message and provides an option to open the file directly.
Can I hide the web part when there are no assigned items?
Yes. Turn on Hide this web part if there's nothing to show.
